Job for a Cowboy @ Volkshaus - Zurich

Zurich, 26 February 2010

A day trip to Geneva meant that I couldn’t get to the Volkshaus in time for this four band marathon. I arrived in time for Job for a Cowboy, and enjoyed the red/orange lights plus some reasonable front-lighting.

This was a bit of a contrast to the main act, Lamb of God, who spent the first three songs lit very strongly from behind by a dazzling array of tiny spots gyrating furiously, as the band themselves were treated to almost zero frontal illumination except for one brief moment of white on the guitarist in the third song.

All these shots were on the 5DII with 24-70mm, ISO 3200 and f/2.8. I could have taken down the ISO as often shutter speeds were well above 1/500 due to the bright rear light treatment. During shooting I was thinking this would have been a great chance to try out some of Todd Owyoung’s flash techniques to try and light the band, but alas there was no chance for any of that!

Having said all that, there are a few nice colourful shots in the two sets posted on flickr, and some (a lot, actually) cool silhouettes.
